Performance Assessment of UTs on Code-Protected Leave
8 February 2022 • CMCFA President
The CMCFA has received the following guidance from Treasury Board on how UTs on Code-protected leave (leave that is protected by the Canadian Human Rights Act, such as maternity, parental, or medical leave) are to be assessed. Please note that this applies only to those who were on leave for less than 6 months of the academic year; Treasury Board has yet to decide how UTs who were on Code-protected leave for more than 6 months are to be evaluated.
“UTs who were absent for less than 6 months on leave without pay for reasons protected by the Canadian Human Rights are eligible to be rated above satisfactory as long as the period of observation is sufficient to evaluate all aspects of teaching, research, service and professional standing. The assessed level of performance is based on the period of observation outside of such leave. In addition, any acknowledgements of research and professional standing while on maternity, parental or medical leave will also be taken into consideration.
Outstanding is guidance on how to proceed with evaluations for UTs who were absent greater that 6 months on leave without pay for reasons protected by the Canadian Human Rights. Once we have this information we will provide it to you.”
Sincerely,
Helen
